Fans head toward the entrance gate behind home plate at Dozer Park in Downtown Peoria.

The Peoria Chiefs are promising fans they will see the team hit a home run at Dozer Park.

The High-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals announced the homer guarantee promotion ahead of Tuesday’s home series opener against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

“The home run is the most exciting play in sports, and this promotion guarantees that all our fans can get involved in the record-breaking excitement,” Chiefs General Manager Jason Mott said in a media release. “There’s never been a better time to watch big flies at Dozer Park and we don’t want anybody to miss out.”

Beginning this week, if the Chiefs are held homerless in a home game, fans attending the game will receive free admission to the next day’s home game. If the homer-free game is a series finale ahead of an off day, fans would get free admission to the next home game.

The offer, sponsored by Lippman’s Furniture, is valid until the Chiefs reach 122 home runs, which is the team’s single-season record set in 2002. They currently have 108 homers through 74 games and lead the Midwest League in slugging percentage at .458.

Minimum wage law change

A new Illinois law recently signed by Gov. JB Pritzker exempts Chiefs players from the state’s minimum wage requirements.

The change only applies to affiliated Minor League Baseball teams; state law already exempts players on unaffiliated teams. The Chiefs are the only affiliated club located in Illinois.

Minor League Baseball players are salaried and their wages are governed by a collective bargaining agreement.

Chiefs officials declined to comment, noting Peoria’s players are Cardinals employees and paid by the MLB franchise.
