Susan G. Komen Central Illinois executive director Jordan Clum speaks about relocating the annual "More Than Pink" walk to Dozer Park as Peoria Chiefs general manager Jason Mott stands next to her during a news conference at the stadium.

The Susan G. Komen Central Illinois memorial organization is moving its annual “More Than Pink” walk to a new location in Downtown Peoria for the first time in more than four decades.

The group joined the Peoria Chiefs this week in announcing Dozer Park will host the 2027 fundraiser for breast cancer awareness on May 8.

Formerly known as the “Race for the Cure,” the event previously had been held at the Peoria Metro Centre since 1986.

"As we close an extraordinary 41-year chapter at Metro Centre, we do so with heartfelt gratitude for the venue, its leadership, and the generations of supporters who helped build this event into a cherished community tradition,” said Jordan Clum, executive director of Susan G. Komen Central Illinois.

Clum noted the Metro Centre was developed by Komen’s father, Marvin Goodman.

“While we honor that legacy, we are excited to begin a new era at Dozer Park alongside the Peoria Chiefs,” she said. “Their partnership represents the future of our event, and we look forward to creating new memories while continuing our mission to support those impacted by breast cancer throughout Central Illinois.”

The new partnership seeks to maintain the walk’s sense of community and purpose. The event raises funds for breast cancer treatment research.

“While Dozer is the home of the Chiefs, above all else it’s a place for the Central Illinois community to come together,” said Chiefs General Manager Jason Mott. “With that in mind, we can’t wait to welcome everybody to the park and build on a great tradition.”

The walk will be held in conjunction with a Chiefs home game against Beloit later that night.
