Bradley University women’s basketball coach Kate Popovec-Goss is leaving the program to accept the head coaching position at Boston College.

Popovec-Goss is coming off a 20-13 season, guiding the Braves to a third-place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference and its first appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament — only the second postseason berth in program history.

The university announced her departure late Friday afternoon, adding a national search for her replacement will begin immediately.

“I am so grateful for my time at Bradley and am so proud of what we have built throughout the past four seasons,” Kate Popovec-Goss said in a media release.

Popovec-Goss became Bradley’s 12th women’s basketball coach when she was hired in 2022, replacing longtime coach Andrea Gorski, after serving as associate head coach at Northwestern.

The Braves improved each season under Popovec-Goss, compiling a 44-118 record during her four-year tenure. She served a university-imposed 10-game suspension early in her second season.

“We are incredibly grateful for the impact Kate has had on our women’s basketball program,” said Chris Reynolds, Bradley’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics. “Her leadership and passion are clearly evident in everything she does, and we are in a stronger position for continued success.”

Boston College dismissed eight-year head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee earlier this month following a 5-26 season.
