Adds confirmation of the familial relation between Ronald Ruffin and Daniel Ruffin.

An assistant girls basketball coach at Richwoods High School in Peoria has left his position following a social media post alleging inappropriate conduct.

According to a letter sent to families by Richwoods athletic director Jeffrey Crusen, Ronald Ruffin has resigned effective immediately and has been removed from all school activities.

“We understand this news is deeply concerning to our school community, especially to the students, families and supporters of our girls basketball program,” Crusen wrote in the letter, co-signed by principal Billy Robinson. “We share your concerns and are committed to addressing them thoroughly.”

The coach’s resignation comes shortly after former Peoria High boys basketball coach Daniel Ruffin was charged with sexual misconduct in two separate cases involving underage female students at the school. Daniel Ruffin was officially dismissed by the district on Monday, then arrested on the second set of charges Tuesday.

Although a Peoria Public Schools spokesperson said they could not verify if the two men are related, WCBU has confirmed through multiple sources that Ronald Ruffin is Daniel Ruffin’s uncle.

There are no reports of any arrest or pending criminal charges against Ronald Ruffin. Crusen’s letter said the school is “cooperating fully” with law enforcement and notes that Ruffin’s resignation will not prevent a thorough investigation.

“The district will continue to investigate these allegations and will take all necessary actions to ensure that the safe operation of the Richwoods girls basketball program,” the letter said.

A media release from Peoria Public Schools confirmed both coaches are no longer employed by District 150, and they are cooperating with authorities.

“Our top priority is and always will be the well-being and safety of our students,” Superintendent Sharon Kherat said in the statement.

Crusen said counseling support is available to students or families who may need it. He said people can reach him in his office, call the school counselors, or contact the district office at 309-672-6768.
