Peoria residents now have another way to report non-emergency incidents and certain crimes through a new online platform.
The Peoria Police Department recently launched its web-based Desk Officer Reporting System [DORS] designed to make filing a report simpler and more convenient.
Citizens can file police reports electronically for incidents that do not require the immediate presence of an officer. Types of incidents that can be recorded include property damage, vehicle burglary, forgery and identity theft, telephone or electronic harassment, various types of theft and more.
A full list of offenses that can be reported through the new system can be found in this social media post. Residents also can file supplemental reports to add information to existing cases.
“This system provides a fast, secure and efficient way for our community to document incidents while helping officers dedicate more time to urgent calls that impact public safety,” Police Chief Eric Echevarria said in a media release.
The system is available 24 hours a day through the police department’s website, by choosing the “File a Police Report Online” option from the menu on the left side of the page. Residents should continue to call 911 for emergencies and crimes in progress.
Anyone reporting a crime with a known suspect is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch line at 309-673-4521 and request an officer’s response. Anonymous tips regarding suspected criminal activity or ongoing investigations can be submitted through CrimeStoppers or the tip411 hotline.
