Jury finds Peoria woman guilty of murder in 2023 stabbing

A 55-year-old Peoria woman has been convicted of first-degree murder in the August 2023 fatal stabbing of another woman at a Western Avenue gas station.

According to a media release from the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office, jurors deliberated about 90 minutes on Wednesday before finding Cathy Logan guilty of killing Tenazisha Green.

Police responding to an emergency call at the Phillips 66 station found Green on the ground, with bystanders tending to a single stab wound to her chest. Officers took over life-saving measures, but Green later died at a local hospital.

A witness who testified during Logan’s three-day trial said she saw the defendant grab a pair of scissors and stab Green before fleeing the scene.

Taking the stand in her own defense, Logan claimed she acted in self-defense, testifying Green threatened to kill her. Logan said Green dropped a knife during their physical confrontation, which she then picked up and used to inflict the fatal injury.

Surveillance video contradicted Logan’s story, showing both women approaching the station from opposite directions. Green is shown walking away, but Logan goes up to her and stabs her. The footage does not show Green dropping a knife and Logan picking it up. A weapon was never recovered.

Logan’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 19.
