Peoria County Coroner: Man dies after tree trimming accident

Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

A 58-year-old Creve Coeur man died after being struck in the head by a falling tree limb Saturday afternoon in Bellevue.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Orin Burgess suffered the traumatic injury and died instantly.

In a social media post, Harwood said Burgess was pulling branches from a tree that had been cut down in the 600 block of North Hilltop Road.

Another man was cutting down a nearby tree and didn’t see Burgess on the ground, said Harwood. A large limb from the second tree fell on Burgess, hitting him in the head and causing the fatal injury.
