Methodist College in Peoria is celebrating a milestone anniversary this weekend with a series of events commemorating its 125-year history of educating health care professionals.

Originally a nurse training program, the not-for-profit Methodist College now stands as a four-year, fully accredited learning institution affiliated with Carle Health.

“At Methodist College, it is our collective mission to deliver student-centered, transformational experiences that prepare future health care leaders to contribute to positive health outcomes for our communities,” Methodist College Chancellor Dr. Kayla Banks said in a media release.

“Recognizing this milestone reminds us how we are continuing to foster a passion for health care that was started 125 years ago and how each of us at the college plays a critical role in changing lives, one student at a time.”

The college’s anniversary events begin with a two-hour reception for alumni and friends at 5 p.m. Friday, with Banks and State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth scheduled to speak to an anticipated crowd of more than 100 former students.

The college will host family friendly activities Saturday, starting with the EDGE Fun Run at 8 a.m., followed by a community carnival from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Both events are free and open to everyone.

The Methodist College campus is located at 7600 N. Academic Drive, along War Memorial Drive west of Orange Prairie Road.
