A Peoria County grand jury has returned a first-degree murder indictment against a woman suspected of killing another woman earlier this month near the Peoria Riverfront.
Deziaah Hunter, 19, initially was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm related to the June 3 shooting of Kenadee Wallenfang, 18. The charges later were elevated following Wallenfang’s death.
Peoria police found the victim beside an SUV in the 100 block of Southwest Water Street. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
Detectives identified Hunter as a suspect and she was arrested the following day after a police interview. She claimed the gun fired accidentally, said police.
