A man was killed early Friday morning in a shooting that resulted in a vehicle crashing along MacArthur Highway in Peoria.

A Peoria Police Department media release says officers responded to the 300 block of South MacArthur shortly after 2:30 a.m., and discovered the vehicle had struck a tree on the west side of Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

Inside the vehicle, they found a 20-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity and official cause of death have not yet been released by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

While at the scene, police learned a second person from the vehicle arrived at a local hospital. The 19-year-old man had a gunshot wound to his hand that was not life-threatening.

Information on which person was driving the vehicle has not been released yet.

Currently, there is no suspect information and the homicide remains under investigation.
