The Peoria Fire Department says a Tuesday night fire that consumed a vacant home in Peoria’s North Valley was set intentionally.

According to a news release, crews were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 707 Voris Street shortly after 7 p.m. Firefighters found a 2½-story home with heavy smoke and flames showing on the front and sides of the main floor.

The house was boarded up with plywood, and crews had to “force” their way in.

Officials say the fire was mostly extinguished within 15 minutes. Crews searched the house and found no occupants; the structure was confirmed as vacant.

A fire investigator and arson dog were called to the scene and determined the cause of the fire was arson.

No injuries to area residents or firefighters were reported.

The department said the house is a total loss, with damage estimated around $60,000.
