The Peoria County Coroner has identified the man killed in a motor vehicle theft that turned into reckless homicide in South Peoria on Monday.
Coroner Jamie Harwood said 70-year old William Collier, of Bartonville, was transported to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition after two men stole a car from Billie Jo’s Towing in the 1500 block of West Lincoln Avenue. Collier and another employee were injured as the unknown suspects forced the car at a high speed through a closing gate.
Harwood said, despite aggressive care, Collier died at 4:58 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the coroner, an autopsy indicates Collier’s cause of death was severe traumatic head injuries and other multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Department. No additional suspect information has been released.
