The Peoria Police Department is looking for two suspects in a motor vehicle theft and reckless homicide Monday night in South Peoria.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Billie Jo’s Towing in the 1500 block of West Lincoln Avenue. Witnesses told police two men had taken the vehicle and were leaving the lot when employees tried to close the gate. Both employees were struck as the suspects sped through the closing gate.

One employee suffered life-threatening injuries and was transferred to a local hospital, where he died shortly after. The other employee’s injuries were minor.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood is expected to release the victim’s identity and cause of death.

Police investigators say they found the stolen vehicle abandoned in the 800 block of South Warren Street. The suspects were not found.

Officials say the incident is still under investigation, though there is no additional suspect information available.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Peoria Police Department, submit anonymously through the tip411 app, or to call Crime Stoppers.
