If the Tazewell County Board decides to move the circuit clerk's office from the Tazewell County Courthouse into the future $44 million, three-story Tazewell County Justice Center Annex, there now will be a drawing and design to do that.

The board on Wednesday agreed to pay Wold Architects and Engineers of Palatine an additional $73,125 to do a drawing and design for the office and a drawing and design for a change in the parking lot for the annex if the county acquires the former Pekin Times building at 306 Court St.

The additional work brings Wold's total cost for the 79,000-square-foot project to $2,256,191 plus reimbursable expenses.

The annex, the most expensive project in county history, will be built just north of the Justice Center on South Capitol Street in downtown Pekin.

The county will use $19 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) COVID-19 economic stimulus funds and budget reserves to pay for the building.

Solar farm developer agrees to take care of county roads during construction

In other action Wednesday:

  • The board approved a road use agreement with Catmint Solar, which plans to build a 5-megawatt community solar farm at 3960 Springfield Road in East Peoria. In the agreement, Catmint agrees to maintain and, if necessary, repair impacted county roads through the construction process. Catmint also will provide a $150,000 surety bond that the county can draw upon if repairs aren't done in a timely manner.
  • The board approved the recommendations presented in a four-year strategic plan developed by consultant James Arndt of Arndt Municipal Support of Charleston. Board members, other county-wide elected officials and county department heads provided input for the plan.
  • Low bidder R.A. Cullinan & Son of Tremont was awarded a $1,080,609 contract for bituminous surface treatment of country roads.
  • Low bidder Standard Heating & Cooling of Peoria was awarded an $88,276 contract to replace the eight roof-top HVAC units at he new county health department facility at 1800 Broadway St. in Pekin. Most of the cost of the project will be covered by a $79,520 award the county received through the federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program.
