A fiery early morning crash on Interstate 74 near Brimfield has killed two people and injured three others, as they drove to Iowa for Christmas.

The Peoria County Coroner’s office said State Police and the Brimfield Fire Department were called about 4:22 a.m. Monday to I-74 at Bell School Road.

A westbound SUV went off the road, hit a tree, and caught on fire. Three people escaped the burning vehicle and were taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Two other people did not make it out of the vehicle, said authorities.

Leila Mohamad, 41,and her daughter, 15-year-old Zilan Sino, both of Columbus, Ohio, were pronounced dead at the scene.
