The current lease between the Peoria Rivermen hockey team and the Peoria Civic Center is set to expire at the end of the current SPHL season. A plan to fund a new ice plant at Carver Arena to keep the team at its current home venue is expected to appear on the agenda for the City Council meeting on Feb. 28.

The Peoria Rivermen will play at Carver Arena for at least one more season.

The minor league hockey team and Peoria Civic Center Authority have agreed to extend the current lease through the 2024-25 season.

The team still hasn't hammered out a long-term lease agreement with Civic Center management, but the extension allows for more time to come to terms.

The Peoria City Council last year approved a $20 million dollar capital plan for the Civic Center which included a replacement for the arena's outdated ice plant. This came amid fears the Rivermen might leave town.

The team has continuously operated in Peoria in some form or fashion since the 1982-83 season.
