Man dead, woman injured after Memorial Day shooting in Peoria

A 30-year-old Peoria man has died after a shooting Monday night on Gale Avenue, marking the city's eighth homicide of 2023.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the victim as Rick Ranson. He was pronounced dead shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center trauma room.

About 45 minutes earlier, officers responded to a five-round ShotSpotter alert in the 2000 block of North Gale.

They initially discovered a woman with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening before locating Ranson.

Harwood says the man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and died instantly.

Peoria police continue to investigate the incident. No arrests have been made, and no suspect information is currently available.
