Authorities have identified the man found partially submerged Monday afternoon on the Peoria Riverfront.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 64-year-old James Byrd of Peoria died from drowning. Harwood says an autopsy found no apparent trauma to his body. Toxicology testing is pending.

Officials say it's still unknown how and why Byrd was in the water and the Peoria Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division are still working on the case. The manner of death is undetermined, pending the results of the investigation.
