Yellow police tape stretches across a blurry crime scene. It says "Police Line Do Not Cross." The text "WCBU Police and Fire" lays on top of that photo.

An 18-year-old Peoria man was booked Monday evening into the Peoria County Jail on first-degree murder charges.

Erick Jackson's arrest is related to last week's shooting death of 15-year-old Merian Smith.

Smith died two days after he was shot in the 500 block of West Gift. Another youth suffered non life-threatening injuries in that incident.

ShotSpotter reports a total of 21 rounds were fired.

Jackson also is charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and domestic battery. He's currently being held in the Peoria County Jail.
