One person is dead and a second injured after a shooting just before midnight Tuesday in South Peoria.

Police responded to two ShotSpotter alerts in the 2000 block of W. Wiswall. Calls were also received about a shooting.

Officers on scene found two men shot. Robert Lee Sims Jr., 37, of Peoria, was pronounced dead on the scene. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said he was shot multiple times in the upper body and died instantly.

The other victim was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

John Nichols III, 26, was arrested Wednesday by Peoria police for Sims' murder and other charges. He's being held in the Peoria County Jail pending a bonding court appearance.

This is Peoria's 7th homicide of 2022.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Peoria police, CrimeStoppers, or use Tip411.
