It appears a proposed barge mooring operation along the Illinois River in Chillicothe may be sunk.

In a public notice dated Monday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District said Richard Hamm's barge fleeting project permit application was withdrawn because the Corps didn't receive all the data needed to evaluate the project.

A citizen's group opposed the project, which called for allowing up to 32 barges to moor along a 2,500 foot stretch of the west side of Chillicothe Island, facing the city's Cutright Community Park.

Hamm also owns Hamm's Holiday Harbor south of Chillicothe.
