A Florida-based company is in the early stages of developing a wind farm stretching from western Peoria County into Fulton County.
Representatives of NextEra Energy attended the Trivoli Township’s August board meeting last Monday to discuss their potential Fulton Wind project.
“Right now, we are focused on speaking with area landowners interested in participating in the project and engaging with community stakeholders,” company spokesperson Conlan Kennedy told WCBU in an email response.
Officials from both Peoria and Fulton counties told WCBU they had no knowledge of the NextEra representatives appearing at the Trivoli Township Board meeting, and they have not been contacted regarding their wind farm project.
Kathi Urban, Peoria County director of planning and zoning, said the company did contact the county in 2017 about placing a Sodar wind speed measuring device in Trivoli Township.
“They have not yet contacted our department regarding any permitting requirements for an actual wind farm, nor have they provided their plans to us as of yet,” said Urban in an email.
Kennedy said the NextEra is in the process of scheduling meetings with both counties, adding commercial operation is currently targeted for 2024.
Attempts to contact Trivoli Township supervisor Eric Stanley were unsuccessful.
