A Peoria County woman in her 40s was among four new Tri-County deaths linked to COVID-19 reported Wednesday, while Peoria-area hospitals saw a drop in coronavirus patients for a second straight day.
Health officials announced an additional 131 COVID-19 cases since Tuesday, bringing the region’s total since the start of the pandemic to 44,246. The region has logged 7,033 new cases since the start of April.
The other recent victims include a Tazewell County woman in her 60s, along with two additional Peoria County residents: a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s, both with underlying health issues. The region's death toll since last March stands at 676.
Peoria-area hospitals are treating 133 patients with COVID-19, five less than the day before. Those hospitalizations include 28 individuals in intensive care units (down from 35), while 885 area residents are isolating at home.
Meanwhile, the region officially has just over one-third of the population fully vaccinated.
Updated figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) show Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties adding 1,587 fully-dosed residents in the past day, bringing the total to 117,758 – or 33.51%.
The region has recorded 252,692 total shots in arms with 2,119 newly administered doses, well above the daily average over the past week of 1,395.
Illinois as a whole is up to 9.5 million injections and more than 4.2 million fully vaccinated residents, which is about 33.1% of the population.
The IDPH reported 2,410 new cases and 30 more deaths statewide in the past day. Since the start of the pandemic, Illinois has logged 1,346,398 infections and 22,096 fatalities. The preliminary rolling seven-day positivity rate ticked down to 3.9%.
