Washington School District 52

Washington plans to join the crowd when it comes to creating a Business Development District. Several area towns including East Peoria, Morton and Pekin have the economic development tool in place.

The recent sale of Lincoln Grade School to the Washington Park District revealed an oversight. Platted streets and alleys on city-owned right-of-way were dedicated to Washington Grade School District 52, but never vacated.

Ground was broken Tuesday for a new $23.4 million Lincoln Grade School that will be built on the 32-acre Washington Middle School campus on North Main Street.

Two years ago, voters in Washington District 52 barely defeated a $20 million referendum to build a new Lincoln Grade School. A similar measure for $23 million passed Tuesday 62% to 48%.

District 52 voters will decide the future of the two-school district Tuesday.
