The Pekin City Council on Monday delayed a decision on whether the city should renew its annual contract with Flock Safety for 54 license plate reading cameras. The issue was tabled until Aug. 24.

The Pekin City Council on Monday unanimously approved renewing the city's annual contract with Flock Safety for the 54 license plate reading cameras installed throughout the community.

A joint initiative between the Illinois House and Illinois State Police is bringing cameras to highways across the state.

The city of East Peoria is the latest Central Illinois municipality to purchase automatic license plate readers from Flock Safety.

The city signed a 2-year contract with Flock Safety.

In a letter to the city council, the Peoria Area ACLU called for regulation of the Automated License Plate Readers being purchased from Flock Safety for use in high crime “hot spots.”
