The East Peoria City Council has approved a new three-year contract with the union that represents its firefighters, as well as a plan for a quick service drive-through coffee shop near a major intersection.

One of Peoria’s most prominent intersections may soon be home to a drive-through coffee chain’s first Illinois location. Initial plans for a small shopping center at the long-vacant lot at the southeast corner of War Memorial Drive and University Avenue begin with a Dutch Bros Coffee shop.

For proprietors of local Peoria coffee shops, the cost of operating the business has grown increasingly volatile in the past few months.
