ELK GROVE VILLAGE - A U.S. Postal Service worker has been shot in suburban Chicago's Elk Grove Village.

Police say the man was driving an unmarked vehicle around 6 p.m. Monday when he was wounded.

The worker was able to exit the vehicle and call for help. An area resident called 911 and helped the driver who later was taken to a hospital. His name and condition were not released.

No arrests have been made. U.S. Postal Service inspectors are assisting local police in their investigation of the shooting.

Elk Grove Village is northwest of downtown Chicago.
