SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Springfield is hosting as many as 30,000 motorcyclists this week for the 41st National Bikers Roundup.
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that the five-day rally coordinated by black motorcyclists began Wednesday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. It features concerts, a car-and-bike show, a food drive for local pantries, a blood drive and vendors.
Retired state police officer Beverly Dixon of Springfield has attended the roundup for 10 years. It's open to everyone but Dixon says it gives black bikers a chance to share their passion for motorcycles and not be in the minority.
Illinois State Fair spokeswoman Morgan Booth says the roundup is among the larger non-fair events ever to occur on the fairgrounds.
Hall's Harley-Davidson is nearby. Marketing manager Travis Smith says the dealer has stocked up.
