Durbin Seeks Immigration Reform

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin hopes the recent detention of a women protected under the DACA program will spur Congress to act on comprehensive immigration reform.

Riccy Enriquez Perdomo was recently held by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents for a week despite renewing her protection under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals in January.

The Illinois Democrat says he’s hopeful that legislators from both parties can work together to protect DACA recipients.

“I think we can put together a bipartisan measure to protect these young people. Even more importantly, I hope we can initiate a new round of discussions about comprehensive immigration reform.”

Durbin says he’s working with several Senate Republicans on immigration legislation, including Jeff Flake of Arizona.
