Weather experts say data show Illinois had a cool and rainy May this year. Illinois state climatologist Jim Angel says the statewide average temperature during May was 61.9 degrees. That's eight-tenths of a degree below normal.
The statewide average precipitation was 5.22 inches, which is about six-tenths of an inch above normal. Danville reported the most rain with more than 10 inches. Areas around Bloomington and south of the Quad Cities were drier than elsewhere in Illinois.
The water survey says the National Weather Service outlook for June shows the southern two-thirds of Illinois having an increased change of being cooler than normal. The southern half of Illinois has an increased chance of being wetter than normal.
