Governor Booed At Chicago State University

Facebook

The financially struggling Chicago State University celebrated commencement today at its campus on the South Side.  But the crowd did not celebrate the presence of Governor Bruce Rauner.

Rauner recently overhauled the management of the predominantly African-American university. That’s because Chicago State has struggled due to the lack of state money during the budget impasse.

Today, Rauner spoke to graduates but was booed when he was introduced.

"The governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner..."

"I was introduced and stood up to speak. There was a little clapping, but there was also some negative feedback," Rauner said.

Afterward, Rauner said he shares the crowd’s frustration and he would boo the system, too.
