White House Wants To Help Chicago Address Violence

A White House spokesman says they want to start a dialogue with Mayor Rahm Emanuel about potential federal help to stop continually rising violence in Chicago.

There have been more than 40 homicides in the city so far this year. Last night President Donald Trump tweeted about the quote “carnage” in Chicago, and promised to send in the feds if it continues.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer followed up today:

SPICER: What the president is upset about is turning on the television and seeing Americans get killed by shootings. And what he wants to do is provide the resources of the federal government, and it can span a bunch of things.

Former federal prosecutor Jeff Cramer says an influx of FBI agents or US attorneys could help, but he says the best use of federal resources would be programs that help prevent kids from joining gangs in the first place.
