Illinois legislative leaders are trying to stay optimistic they can work together. Even as the political games of the last two years are clearly weighing on them. House members were sworn in Wednesday for their two-year term. But House Minority Leader Jim Durkin was still upset about something from the last term.
Durkin’s fellow Republicans gave him a standing ovation when he criticized Democrats for what he called “gotcha votes” - in which the same bill was called for a vote 17 times.
"This tactic is unworthy of our chamber and of our oath of office. That is not active participation in state government. Enough is enough."
Durkin ended his speech asking for bipartisan cooperation going forward.
