Illinois Governor, Wife to Downsize During Mansion Revamp

The house Gov. Bruce Rauner and his wife are planning to move into during renovations of the Illinois Executive Mansion is just a bit larger than the carriage house at the governor's current home.  The Rauners plan to relocate to the Director's House at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in January as an estimated $15-million mansion restoration project begins.

The fairgrounds residence is a 3,950 square foot single-story home with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a walk-out basement. In contrast, the Executive Mansion is 45,120 square feet on three levels.  Its attached Carriage House is 3,848 square feet, comparable in size to the U-shaped Director's House.  The fairgrounds residence and the governor's residence are both fenced for security.
