Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is drawing attention to the comparatively lower participation in organ donor among minorities.
White, who’s black, says there were 1,900 African-Americans on donor waiting lists in Illinois last year.
Only 140 become donors. There were similar statistics with Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans.
White was speaking yesterday at Carle Hospital in Urbana for National Minority Donor Awareness Week.
