Preckwinkle Endorses Pritzker for Governor, Despite Recorded Phone Calls

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is endorsing fellow Democrat J-B Pritzker for Illinois governor.

That’s even though Pritzker is taking heat for how he talked about African-Americans in a secretly-recorded phone call with Rod Blagojevich.

In the 2008 recording released by the Chicago Tribune, Pritzker asks Blagojevich to appoint Jesse White to Barack Obama’s senate seat because White is the “least offensive” black candidate, and quote “covers you on the African-American thing.”

Pritzker has apologized, and he’s been criticized by many black public officials.

But Preckwinkle says Pritzker is a “decent person.”

PRECKWINKLE: "You know, look. We’ve all had casual conversations which we might not be happy to see on the front page of the newspaper and I think this is one of those instances."

Preckwinkle says Pritzker has the best chance of beating a Republican in November.
