Rauner Pushes Term Limits In New Ad

It helped Republican Bruce Rauner land the governor's office in his first election.  Now Rauner is making another run at term limits.

It will be another two years -- when Rauner's up for re-election -- before Illinois voters could even have the chance to vote on amending the state constitution to include term limits.

But Rauner's getting an early start at promoting the idea.

There's this slick new ad:

"The system -- it's broken.

"Once a politician gets to Springfield they never leave."

Leading to a website with a "petition." It asks people to sign on by giving their name, email and zip code. But state elections authorities can't accept online "petitions" like these. So it basically seems to be a means of collecting voters' data.

The website also asks legislators to take a pledge saying they'll demand a vote on term limits. But it doesn't ask lawmakers to voluntarily leave office after eight years.

Just last week, Illinois' top ranking House Republican campaigned with Rauner on the issue; he's approaching 20 years as a state legislator.
