BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A mental health evaluation has been ordered for a central Illinois man who is charged with murder in his parents' stabbing deaths.
Springfield psychiatrist Dr. Terry Killian was appointed to examine 25-year-old Brian Petersen of Bloomington to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial. A judge set Petersen's bond at $6 million Monday after he was charged in the deaths of his mother, 63-year-old Nancy Petersen, and his father, 68-year-old Bruce Petersen.
Brian Petersen appeared disoriented during the Monday hearing, waving his arms and rocking in a chair. Petersen is to be arraigned Aug. 12.
It wasn't immediately clear if Petersen has an attorney. He lived with his parents in a subdivision west of Bloomington.
