Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says the state will need more revenue to reduce the deficit the longer it goes without a full budget.
Rauner spoke today at an American Legion event in Springfield... a day after a government commission found the state is on pace to spend nearly 8 billion dollars more than it will take in. Rauner says the state will need money because of interest penalties the state must pay for delinquent bills.
"Our spending doesn't fit our revenues. I've said it repeatedly, we need a balanced budget in Illinois and we need reforms to grow our economy and protect our taxpayers. It's the most important thing, we've got to get it done.")
Rauner says he won't agree to a tax increase if Democratic leaders in the legislature don't enact business friendly and union weakening agenda. Rauner and the legislature approved a stop-gap budget that only covers a portion of spending for this fiscal year.
