Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has responded to the police-related shootings this week in other states. In a written statement, Rauner called the ambush attack on Dallas police "outrageous". Five officers were killed and others wounded following what had been a peaceful protest in that city. The protestors were upset over police fatally shooting black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.
Rauner called those incidents "deeply distressing." He says all of the events speak to lack of unity and trust and underscores the urgency in addressing that lack of trust. Rauner has weighed in on such incidents previously. When video of a Chicago officer shooting and killing 16 year old LaQuan McDonald was made public, the Governor said he was brought to tears and raised questions as to why it took so long for authorities to bring charges against the officer.
