Stopgap Budget Won’t Stop Lawsuit for Services Provided

The compromise that led to a stopgap state budget is not stopping a lawsuit asking the state to pay up for services already provided.  For 12 months, social service providers had contracts with the State of Illinois to perform services.  But they weren’t paid because there was no budget.

So more than 80 of those groups across Illinois sued, in a lawsuit that’s still pending in Cook County court. The stopgap budget compromise, does pay for some of those services, but not all of them.  Andrea Durbin leads a coalition of those groups that are suing.

"We have to take all measures we can to try to protect the financial stability of our organizations."

Durbin says even more organizations are expected to join the lawsuit against the state.
