Rauner Close to Short-Term Budget Agreement

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he’s close to reaching a short-term budget deal with Democrats.

“What we’ve been told is that we’re very, very close. Any differences are very minor. And the push that they have, they’re always pushing to spend more. But their recommendations to spend more on human services or MAP grants, I’m a MAP grant advocate, that we’re very close and that could be finalized.”

Rauner’s optimism follows almost a year of not having a full state budget approved. But there’s still a dispute over how much money the state should spend on education.
