A judge has ordered Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to give a deposition in a lawsuit filed by eight Chicago police officers who say they were removed from his security detail for political reasons after he took office in 2011.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber will review the deposition transcript in considering an allegation in the lawsuit that the city violated a ban on political hiring when officers, who had volunteered for Emanuel's campaign, were placed on his security team.
Leinenweber's order for a deposition came after the city's attorneys fought a subpoena served on the mayor last month seeking his testimony in court. The attorneys argued Emanuel already had provided written answers detailing his involvement with the selection of the security team.
