The FBI warned the Chicago Police Department hours before it released a video of a white officer shooting black teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times that gang members were plotting to ambush officers. In an email sent Nov. 24 - the same day the video was released - the FBI told the department that a confidential informant said gang members had planned to wait outside of a West Side police station and shoot CPD employees as they walked to their cars.
The email also said that gang members had discussed shooting and killing police officers in their squad cars. There were no reported attacks on any officers in the days after the release of the video. Although, the video sparked large demonstrations in which there were instances of skirmishes between officers and angry and protesters.
