If you have a student applying for financial aid to attend an Illinois college or university, the deadline is tomorrow night.
Despite rallies, protests, postcards and petitions, Illinois lawmakers still have not agreed to any legislation that would fund MAP grants, the Monetary Award Program that helps low-income students pay college tuition.
But the agency that handles MAP is telling students to apply for next year’s grants anyway. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has just announced that students hoping to receive funds should make sure their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, is filed before 10:59 Wednesday night.
Students who meet the deadline may or may not receive money, but students who miss the deadline will miss out on the MAP grant for sure.
