Chicago to Judge: Let construction on Lucas Museum begin

The city of Chicago is asking a judge to lift an order barring "Star Wars" creator George Lucas from starting construction on a $400-million museum along Chicago's lakefront while litigation plays out.

A filing in federal court today comes soon after a judge let a suit by a group trying to scuttle the project proceed.   Friends of the Parks says the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art would violate laws restricting development along Lake Michigan.

Todays filing argues that letting the suit move ahead doesn't mean museum opponents will eventually prevail.

It says leaving an injunction in place prohibiting construction "now puts the entire project at risk" because the museum "may choose to leave Chicago and relocate to another city." It argues that would deprive Chicago of major economic benefits.
