U of Illinois newspaper cuts back to 2 days a week

The privately run student newspaper at the University of Illinois plans to scale back its print product and focus on digital delivery.

Lilyan Levant is publisher and general manager of Illini Media Company, the company that owns the Daily Illini. She says starting Jan. 19th it will be printed only on Mondays and Thursdays.

The move is intended to let Daily Illini staff focus more on the paper's website and distribution through social media.

The Daily Illini also plans to stop printing its weekly Buzz Magazine in March.

Student newspapers on many campuses have cut back or ended print production in recent years due to declining print readership and financial difficulties.

The Associated Press is one of the largest and most trusted sources of independent newsgathering, supplying a steady stream of news to its members, international subscribers and commercial customers. AP is neither privately owned nor government-funded; instead, it's a not-for-profit news cooperative owned by its American newspaper and broadcast members.
