Governor Bruce Rauner says the top leaders in Illinois state government won’t likely meet again until the new year. That’s after Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan skipped this week’s meeting.
For six months this year, Rauner and the state’s top leaders didn’t meet. So it’s not a surprise those leaders still haven’t come up with a state budget. But this month there have been three meetings.
Though Madigan skipped yesterday’s. Governor Rauner says he was disappointed.
"He’s not a big fan of the four-leader meetings'. He has not really wanted to have those during the summer and the fall."
A spokesman for Madigan says that’s inaccurate and Rauner has no basis to think that. But the spokesman wouldn’t say why Madigan missed this week’s meeting.
