Judge rules against Chicago police in lawsuit

A federal judge has ruled that a Chicago police officer used excessive force by dragging a man from his jail cell after he was subdued with a stun gun.

The lawsuit was filed by the family of Philip Coleman, who later died at a hospital due to a reaction to an anti-psychotic drug. The ruling only pertains to how the 38-year-old was dragged from his cell, not how he died.

The city recently released video of the 2012 incident, which shows officers, including several who are black, trying to subdue Coleman.

The judge also ruled that the officer's supervisor should have stopped him from dragging Coleman.
