Illinois ups ante in 2-state bid for new spy agency home

Southwestern Illinois is upping the ante in the competition with Missouri for a federal spy agency's new regional headquarters.

St. Clair County officials say they would more than double the amount of free land adjacent to Scott Air Force Base available for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency relocation project.

The county is offering the choice of two new sites that are at least 200 acres to go with its earlier gift of a 182-acre tract near MidAmerica Airport.

The defense and intelligence agency also is considering three sites in the St. Louis area to replace its current location near the Anheuser-Busch brewery south of downtown St. Louis.
